Why replace a split or damaged panel when it can be repaired using Hot or Cold Plastic Welding systems? Hot welding is the preferred method, involving the heating of both sides of the repair to the correct temperature and then feeding a rod of the same specification plastic into the crack, similar to gas welding on steel. The face of the repair is then smoothed, plastic primed and painted to match the original colour. A small bead of weld is occasionally visible on the reverse of the repair this is left there for additional strength. Using experience and the correct technique a panel can be repaired to maintain it's strength and flexibility and from the outside an invisible repair is always achieved. Due to the heat involved re-painting of the panel is always necessary. Headlights are prone to breaking their mounting lugs when a bike is dropped due to the fairing compressing around the stiffer headlight area. Something has to give!!! These lugs can be very successfully Hot Welded and at a much more acceptable price than that of a new headlight. |
